Hydro GmbH, an engineering office for hydrogeology and geothermal energy, was founded in 2023 by Bernd Böchzelt and Nikolaus Petschacher and emerged from the technical office Böchzelt (2003-2023).
The company advises and represents its customers as an independent counsellor and planer and transacts projects in the fields of hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry and geothermal energy.
The Hydro GmbH stands in permanent interaction with universities, research establishments and funding agencies and thus is involved in various research projects on geothermal exploration and utilization of renewable energy. Thereby the company draws on decades of experience in this fields.

Mag. Bernd Böchzelt has been working in the field of hydrogeology since 1992. He founded the technical office Böchzelt and later, together with Nikolaus Petschacher, Hydro GmbH in 2023.
He is an expert in the fields of drinking water, mineral water and thermal water, well inspections, well design and workover, and thus is a wellsite geologist with 30+ years of experience. He actively participates in numerous research projects and interacts with expert committees such as the Austrian Geothermal Association (GTOE), the Climate and Energy Fund in Austria (KLIEN), the Austrian Water and Management Association (ÖWAV), etc., and operates as a lecturer on geothermal energy at different universities in Austria and abroad.
Nikolaus Petschacher, BSc, MSc is a graduate of Geosciences in Graz with a special focus on hydrogeology and hydrogeochemistry. During his studies, he already worked in the field of hydrogeology and geothermal energy at the engineering office Geoteam. During his master´s thesis he acquired profound knowledge of geothermic and numerical modelling. From 2013 to 2023 he was employed as a project manager at the engineering office Böchzelt and was significantly involved in the planning and implementation of numerous projects, including groundwater development and the utilization of near-surface and deep geothermal energy. In 2023, together with Bernd Böchzelt, he founded Hydro GmbH, Consulting Engineers for Hydrogeology and Geothermal Energy. His key areas of expertise include the observation of complex hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical issues, as well as the modelling and simulation of flow and heat transport processes.
Martina Hölbling, BSc, has been employed at Hydro GmbH since August 2023 and will soon graduate from the master´s degree program in Geosciences with a special focus on hydrogeochemistry. During her studies she worked as a tutor and project assistant in different fields at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Graz. Additionally, she completed an internship at Geo5 GmbH and was able to gain knowledge of the principles of geophysical data acquisition, evaluation and interpretation.
David Muhr, BSc, MSc, graduated in Geosciences from the University of Graz, specializing on hydrogeology and hydrogeochemistry during his master´s degree. After having gained 10 years of project experience at the engineering office Geoteam in Graz, he transferred to Hydro GmbH in 2023. His areas of expertise include near-surface and deep geothermal energy, ground water development and monitoring, GIS applications as well as supervision as a wellsite geologist.
DI Dr. Vilmos Vasvári supports us as an independent consultant through his engineering firm VASVÁRI, specializing in Water and Environmental Engineering.
He studied Civil Engineering with a focus on agricultural water management and hydrology in Budapest. Following his studies, he worked for several years as a research assistant at the Technical University Graz (TU), where he successfully completed a doctoral program with a dissertation in groundwater modelling and hydrogeology. His academic work involved participation in and management of multiple research projects:
Groundwater Modeling in Confined Aquifer Systems (TU Graz, 1993-1996), Investigation of Pressure Propagation in Fractured Aquifers (FWF, 1999-2001), Hydrogeological Principles for Sustainable Use of Deep Groundwater in the Eastern Styrian and Pannonian Basins – NANUTIWA (TU Graz, 2002-2004). The findings of these research projects have been reflected in numerous publications. Vilmos Vasvári specializes in groundwater hydraulics (pumping test analysis, well hydraulics, dewatering of construction sites) including numerical groundwater modeling, addressing issues related to local or regional groundwater development, power plant construction, and deep or near-surface geothermal energy. He has extensive experience in developing drainage concepts and conducting infiltration tests and hydrological field measurements.
